Participants begin their run on Water Street and turn on to Mill Street during the Green Lake 13dot1 races Aug. 30.
The Green Lake 13dot1 races returned Saturday, Aug. 30 for a day of exercise and wellness that helped raise money for another 13dot1 scholarship.
“We’re proud to share that we’ve awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a local 2024 and 2025 high school senior, funded by the previous year’s race proceeds,” 13dot1 press correspondent Elizabeth Goodspeed said. “We’re on track to award another $1,000 scholarship to a 2026 high school senior from this year’s race as well.”
The races, which gave participants the option to run a 5k, 10k or half marathon, went perfect according to Goodspeed. She explained that the weather was great, the volunteers were supportive and that the crowd kept the energy high by cheering on participants and ringing cowbells.
Turnout this year was on par with previous years, with 138 participants in the 5k, 99 competitors in the 10k and 134 runners in the half marathon.
After the races, participants enjoyed a post-race celebration on the Town Square Terrace, where they ate food and enjoyed beer or soda. There was also an award ceremony, where each finisher received a medal.
Additionally, those who placed first overall by gender received a branded Carhartt beanie and the first-, second- and third-place finishers in each age group won a place charm, a branded pint glass and a $5 Sassafras Specialties gift card.
Goodspeed encouraged those who’d like to support 13dot1 in the future to become a sponsor, volunteer on race day or register to participate in next year’s race. As always, Goodspeed recommended registering early to help streamline next year’s planning and logistics.
