MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – November is National Scholarship Month, and if you have any highschool seniors applying for college, it’s a busy time of visiting and applying to colleges, and looking for ways to pay for it. Our friends at Greene & Phillips have given away over $60,000 scholarships to area seniors over the past few years, and David Greene is here to talk about it!
The following questions and answers were provided by Greene & Phillips:
Tell us about the Gives Back Scholarship Program and why did you start it?
This is our 7th year of providing five high school seniors with $2000 each to go toward the accredited college or trade school of their choice. We wanted a concrete way to invest in the lives of young people, and we thought what better way to do that than investing in their education.
Are there any academic or athletic requirements to apply?
While many scholarships are geared toward those who have good grades or are star athletes, we wanted the Gives Back scholarship to be available to anyone who has the drive to do something great, but who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity.
What made you approach the application like this?
My mother was a school teacher, and my father worked in the paper mill. Before attending law school, I sold three ring binders to businesses. In School I didn’t have the best grades, but I was lucky. I got a few breaks, I had people that believed in me, and that made all the difference.
How Can a High School Seniors Apply
Very simple, just record and upload a 3-5 minute video minute to our website telling us about yourself, and explaining the challenges you have overcome to get to where you are today.
We’ll select 10 of the applicants as semifinalists, then there’s an interview process to choose the top five.
