GREENSBORO, N.C. — The men from Omega Psi Phi, Tau Omega Chapter here in Greensboro do all kinds of service projects. But this one is near and dear to their hearts because it honors one of their own, Dr. Drewery J. Vincent.
“He was a dentist in this community for years. He served the community. He was a member of our fraternity. He was a mentor to youth, not only in Greensboro, in the health area but also in his hometown of Reidsville, said Jason Crump, Tau Omega member and golf tournament committee member.
The tournament raises money to send 10 to 15 boys to camp to learn leadership skills and provide five $5,000 scholarships for college-bound students, and this year, the hope is to start another scholarship for students in graduate school.
“Scholarship is our second cardinal principle. So, it is important that we not only as educated men, help to mentor other young men, but also provide them access as well,” said Crump
The Dr. Drewery J. Vincent Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is on August 2, 2024, at the Greensboro National Golf Course in Summerfield.
“He was an avid golfer. He was a great community servant, someone who exemplifies what our golf tournament is about. Anyone who wants to come out to and help us to continue his legacy, that would be great,” said Crump.
They’re still looking for players, hole sponsors, and title sponsors. There are prizes for the tournament players as well. You can register here.
