The upcoming HACE Gala, “Year of the Woman: Unmasking Her Power,” presented by the Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth (HACE) Foundation, will honor four women leaders and award six college scholarships.
This year’s annual fundraiser, which benefits and empowers low- and middle-income students, will be held at the Newark Museum of Art at 6:30 p.m., May 30.
Honorees include two NJBIA members: Cristina Pinzon, president & CEO of Stateside Affairs in Manasquan, will be receiving the Brand Amplifier Award. Natasha Davis, founder of the BLOC Society (Black Ladies in Construction) and the community-based nonprofit Someone’s Daughter, will be honored with the Construction Trailblazer Award.
The other honorees are Crystal Orr, president & CEO of the Urban League of Union County who will receive the Urban Changemaker Award, and Iliana Chevres, site director of Prevention Links at the Elizabethport Community Center and member of the Elizabeth Board of Education, who will be receiving the Community Champion Award.
The HACE Gala is a vital source of funding for the HACE Foundation’s programs, which include a college readiness program, a college tour that gives residents access and exposure to essential resources and opportunities that prepare them for postsecondary education, and six scholarships of $2,000 each.
Scholarships are available to Elizabeth residents seeking to pursue their education in a traditional 2- or 4-year college, university, trade school, or graduate school. The deadline to apply for a scholarship has been extended until April 15. For more information, go here.
“We are deeply committed to creating educational opportunities that leave a lasting impact and drive sustainable change within our community,” said Curtis Myers Jr., director of Finance and Administration and the scholarship committee chair. “By providing scholarships, resources, and recognizing four incredible women who are breaking barriers, we are proud to demonstrate the kind of agency we strive to be.”
