COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Hand Middle School eighth-grader Savion Hughes was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Ritedose Pharmacy after winning an essay contest.
Hand Middle School’s science department also received a $500 donation in Hughes’ name.
The scholarship competition required students to submit a 500-word essay on their interest in science.
More than 50 students from across the Columbia area participated.
Hughes was one of five students selected for the scholarship.
