HANNIBALĀ ā Hannah Carlson, a 2025 graduate of Hannibal High School, was selected to receive a $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the P.E.O.Ā (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood.
She was recommended by P.E.O. Chapter JH of Hannibal. Carlson was also the recipient of the $500 Chapter JH Scholarship.
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional women in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the U.S. or Canada.
The STAR scholarship is for women who exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success.
Carlson was a member of History Club (2022-25), Key Club (2022-25), Future Business Leaders of America (2023-25), DECA (2023-25), National Honor Society (2023-25), Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society (2023-25), Educators Rising (2023-25), Pirate Black & Red Newspaper (Editor 2025), Pre-Medical Club (2025), Pirate Parley Speech and Debate (2024), Student Tutoring (2024-25), and attended American Legion Auxiliary Missouri Girls State (2024) and Missouri Scholars Academy (2023).
Her community activities include St. Johns Lutheran Church Music Team, St. Johnās Youth Group, St. Johnās Youth Ministry Team, Salvation Army Volunteer, Hannibal Booster Club Volunteer, Special Olympics Volunteer and Mississippi Valley School Volunteer.
She will attend University of Missouri in the fall to pursue a Doctorate in Speech Pathology.
Chapter JH has been a part of the Hannibal community since it was organized in 1962.
