HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Early Bird Kiwanis recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to four members of the Hannibal High School graduating class of 2024. Scholarship recipients were Katherine Painter, Hailie Hark, Tristen Essig and Ashlyn Hess.
Recipients were selected by their academic merit and community involvement and service. Each student expressed a desire to continue serving their communities as they move into adulthood and their future career paths, and most of them have hopes to do so “back home” once they have completed their education and training.
Katherine Painter plans to first attend Moberly Area Community College, then transfer to continue her education, likely at Missouri State University. Painter plans to pursue a career in a veterinary care with an emphasis on large farm animals.
Halie Hark plans to attend Truman State University pursuing degrees in communications and creative writing.
Tristen Essig will attend the University of Missouri and major in bio chem with a final goal to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Ashlyn Hess plans to attend the University of Missouri to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
