GREENLAWN, NY — The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 10 graduating students from across Long Island who are planning to major in music, music education and the performing arts, the hall of fame announced.
Justin Lowenhar, a student at Harborfields High School, was one of the recipients.
“These students have not only shown talent and passion, but they’ve made the significant decision to continue their journey by majoring in music or theater in college,” said Tom Needham, LIMEHOF Vice Chairman. “One of the things I like to tell the students is that many of the artists we’ve inducted started their musical careers when they were their age, and that’s very true, so a lot of these kids we’re giving scholarships to, could in fact one day become future hall of fame inductees themselves.”
Lowenhar plans to attend Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music, where he intends to pursue a BFA in musical theater.
Lowenhar has always been passionate about music, according to the hall of fame. He began his musical journey as a saxophone player. He has played lead saxophone in his high school jazz band for four years.
Through his love of music, he found his way into musical theater and vocal music. He was selected as a member of the All State Mixed Chorus. He has also performed across multiple regional theaters throughout Long Island and New Jersey.
Lowenhar’s future career goals include performing in the musical theater realm, composing musicals and working as a music director.
Lowenhar said he is grateful for the support of his family, friends and music teachers.
