She graduated high school with a 3.6 GPA and earned numerous athletic awards during her tenure in high school, including the Four Rivers Conference Basketball Player of the Year and Co-Runner of the Year for Track. She was noted for her excellent leadership abilities and chosen for membership in Unified Champions and PQ Ambassadors.
Long was an honor student at Perquimans High and will attend Elizabeth City State University to study exercise science. During her high school career, Long was a member of the Lady Pirates’ softball and volleyball teams. She earned numerous awards in softball, including All District, All State and All Conference and plans to join the ECSU Lady Vikings.
The Hurdle scholarship began with Perquimans High’s Class of 2021.
Hurdle, a long-standing volunteer for the Perquimans County Schools Foundation and member of the directors board, provides a $500 scholarship to female students who plan to attend a four-year university. The scholarship aims to empower female students by encouraging them to pursue higher education and propel their careers.
