HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – College scholarships were given out to a handful of local high school students on Easter weekend.
The nonprofit “Bottles4College” is led by 17-year-old Genshu Price, who recycles cans and bottles to raise money to help cover college tuitions.
This is the nonprofit’s third year handing out scholarships, their first being in 2023.
“We’ve had some incredible students. So far, we have nine students in college now with our Bottles4College scholarships,” Price said.
“One of our students is actually graduating from UH Manoa this year, two years early with a double major and we are so excited for her because she got a full ride through our scholarship and her other financial aid.”
Saturday morning, Jaxon Pang, a senior at Myron B. Thompson Academy was one of the handful presented with a $10,000 check.
“I just recently committed to Arizona State University to play division one roller hockey, and I’ve also accepted their flight program, so I’ll be flying planes up there,” Pang said.
Price says the organization has collected about 2 million bottles and cans this year so far.
