Haywood County students earn prestigious full-tuition scholarships for higher education – The Mountaineer

Cecilia Morgan-Park was awarded the Park Scholarship at NC State University. 
Mary Katheryn Oberg was awarded the Founders Scholarship at Covenant College.
Christian Ramellini was awarded the Pearce Aerospace Engineering Scholarship at NC State University.
Luci Snyder-Lowe was awarded the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program.
Hunter Sollie received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Ben Frazier was awarded the Pop and Marj Kelly Merit Scholarship at Haywood Community College.
Shanlee Haygood was awarded the Pop and Marj Kelly Merit Scholarship at Haywood Community College.
Yaquelin Palomares was awarded the Pop and Marj Kelly Merit Scholarship at Haywood Community College.

A group of outstanding Haywood County students has been awarded highly competitive, full-tuition merit scholarships to attend top universities and colleges across North Carolina and beyond.
These scholarships, each awarded through rigorous selection processes, recognize academic achievement, leadership, service, and future potential.
The following students have earned full-tuition awards for their post-secondary education:
• Margaret Allsbrook: Textile Pioneer Scholarship at NC State University.
Only four Textile Pioneer Scholarships are offered each year through the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State University. This scholarship supports students from non-metropolitan areas of North Carolina with an interest in the textile industry.
• Eason Ezell: Ignite Excellence Scholarship at Gardner-Webb University.
A highly competitive merit award. It is granted to students who demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership, and community service.
• Carter Francoeur and Christopher Wells: Goodnight Scholarship at NC State University.
A prestigious merit-based program for high-achieving North Carolina students pursuing STEM disciplines. This scholarship includes mentorship, professional development, and experiential learning opportunities.
• Karen Francoeur: Presidential Founders Scholarship at High Point University.
This top-level merit award recognizes exceptional academic performance, leadership, and service, and is granted to a select group of incoming students.
• Cecilia Morgan-Park: Park Scholarship at NC State University.
The Park Scholarship is one of the most prestigious merit awards in the country, based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, service and character.
• Mary Katheryn Oberg: Founders Scholarship at Covenant College.
Covenant College’s highest merit award. This scholarship honors students with outstanding academic credentials, strong leadership abilities, and a deep commitment to faith and service.
• Christian Ramellini: Pearce Aerospace Engineering Scholarship at NC State University.
This competitive scholarship supports top-performing students entering the College of Engineering with a focus on aerospace, recognizing their academic excellence and potential to contribute to the field.
• Luci Snyder-Lowe: North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program.
Provides tuition to students committed to teaching in public schools across the state. The program includes leadership training, summer internships, and a service commitment in high-need areas such as STEM and special education.
• Hunter Sollie: United States Military Academy at West Point.
One of the most selective and respected service academies in the nation, West Point prepares cadets through a rigorous academic, physical, and leadership program.
• Pop and Marj Kelly Merit Scholarship: Haywood Community College.
Each year, only five students from Haywood County Schools are chosen to receive the Pop and Marj Kelly Merit Scholarship at Haywood Community College. This scholarship honors students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to education.
This year’s recipients are Ben Frazier, Shanlee Haygood, Yaquelin Palomares, Isabella Sanchez and Joseph Sorrells.
These remarkable scholarships reflect the hard work and dedication of Haywood County students, families, and educators. The Haywood County Schools community celebrates these students’ accomplishments and looks forward to their bright futures.
