Hazard Community and Technical College hosted its annual golf scramble on May 18 at Hazard Country Club to raise money for the college’s vocational careers training scholarships fund. The event raised over $23,000.
Nine teams played during the event, while community members and golf spectators also attended in support of its mission: providing financial support to students, according to a statement from HCTC
Students pursuing opportunities in the skilled trades receive the scholarship supported by the golf scramble. In addition to tuition costs, these students’ programs often require equipment, boots, helmets, tool kits and other supplies as part of the training, so the scholarship helps alleviate the financial burden of these supplies, the statement said.
The event winners are, in place order, alphabetical order by prize category and alphabetical order by last name:
• Ryan Griffith, John Turner, Josh Wells and Connor Whitaker – First Place;
• Harold Craft, Robbie Lovelace, Scott Miller and Zach Weinberg – Second Place;
• Corey Slone – Closest to the Hole;
• Josh Wells — Closest to the Hole; and
• Ryan Leburn – Longest Drive.
According to Dr. Jennifer Lindon, HCTC president and chief executive officer, the event was an incredible opportunity for the community to rally around student financial support:
“I enjoyed this year’s golf scramble. The event allows talented players to exercise their skills while also supporting our students,” Dr. Lindon said. “We work tirelessly to expand access and opportunity for students across our service region, and we could not achieve this goal without our communities. Thank you from all of us at HCTC for your generosity.”
“Every dollar we receive at HCTC makes a difference in our students’ lives, and we are incredibly appreciative. I’m fortunate to witness students receive scholarships to help them afford their dreams. There are no words to describe it,” HCTC Dean of Advancement Carla Seals said. “Thank you to our generous community donors, our golf scramble committee members, our supporters … your contributions do not go unnoticed.”
