TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Amcor announced a new scholarship program for undergraduate students at an accredited two-year college or vocational-technical school.
Amcor is a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions. At the Terre Haute Plant, Amcor makes plastic packaging, known as overwrap. It’s used to cover household items like paper towels and toilet paper. While you won’t see the Amcor name on the product, it is in millions of Americans’ homes.
Officials said that as a society, it’s important to recognize that you can have a fulfilling, well-paying career with a two-year education, a vocational, or trade school education.
“There is a very well-paid career at Amcor,” Mary Ann Dilling, Director of Community Relations at Amcor said.
“We believe in investing in the manufacturing workforce of the future, and so we’re excited to help students get the training they need for a successful and satisfying career,” stated Ethan Haas, chair of the Amcor Cares Board of Trustees. “Amcor considers it a responsibility and an honor to help students truly unpack their potential in the years ahead.”
Who’s the ideal candidate?
“Anyone in the high schools right now that is a senior, they’re looking for their direction in the future, Dilling said. “They see themselves definitely going to a technical school. They are excited about their future but would love some assistance,” she added.
Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to go on for a career at Amcor. The company also offers a program for colleagues to have the chance to go back to school with financial assistance.
“We want to make an impact, but we also see a possibility of them being future family members of Amcor, our future colleagues and so, what a better way than to help them with their education,” Dilling said.
Dilling said the scholarship is a way for Amcor to give back to the community and to the individuals within the Amcor communities.
Twenty $2,500 grants will be given each academic year.
