HFS Federal Credit Union has increased the number of scholarships to be awarded to student members from 15 to 20.
Since 2012, HFS has awarded over 110 scholarships to student members totaling over $289,000. According to a press release from the not-for-profit and member-owned financial institution, previous recipients and applicants expressed their desire to pursue a college degree so they can return to the Big Island to serve the people and the land they grew up with.
Applications for the 2025 HFS Scholarship Program are now being accepted online from graduating Big Island high school seniors and current college students. This year, the Credit Union will be awarding $3,000 each to 10 Big Island graduating high school seniors and 10 current college students.
A total of $60,000 will be awarded to qualified applicants.
Student members of HFS pursuing higher education fulltime at an accredited 2- or 4-year Vocational-Technical School, College, or University in the 2025–26 academic year are eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, achievements, and community service.
For a complete list of requirements and to apply students may visit hfsfcu.org or inquire with their high school counselors. Completed applications with supporting documents must be submitted online at hfsfcu.awardspring.com no later than Feb. 28.
