In Ghent, the 2025 Paw Picnic at Locust Hill Barn raised more than $70,000 for the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA. The money raised from event attendees, sponsors and raffle participants supports chapter programs and services to more than 6,000 animals each year. In Albany, Tully Rinckey PLLC, through the Tully Rinckey Foundation, is awarding military scholarships for the Fall 2025 college semester. The $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to one student from Syracuse University College of Law, University at Buffalo School of Law and Albany Law School. To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must be a new or current student, and have served, or are currently serving, in the military or reserves. Applications and supporting material must be submitted no later than October 15. Scholarship winners will be notified by November 1. In the Capital Region, Market 32 and Price Chopper, as part of Market 32’s 10th anniversary celebration, is bringing back the “Pets in Halloween Costumes” contest. Through Oct. 31, pet owners across the company’s six-state footprint are invited to show off their feline and canine friends to win baskets full of free food and toys. Six winners will be selected and announced on Nov. 3. Contest prizes are sponsored by Nestle Purina and Cat’s Pride, which also will donate 2,000 pounds of litter to the Animal Protective Foundation.
In Stuyvesant, local residents were able to get free repairs for lamps, electrical items, as well as woodwork repaired and knives sharpened as part of the town’s fall trash day. The repair cafe was sponsored by the Stuyvesant Climate Smart Taskforce, the Depot Committee and Stuyvesant Pathways/OSI.
