The OHSAA delegated $200,000 of scholarship funds to its six district athletic boards to be given out to recent high school graduates.
And recent Hilltop High School graduate Libbie Baker was one of them.
Baker was awarded a $1,000 scholarship, along with 199 other recent graduates across the state, by the OHSAA and Northwest District Athletic Board (NWDAB) on Wednesday.
Baker was also one of 40 recent graduates in the Northwest District to be awarded a $1,000 scholarship and the only student-athlete in The Bryan Times and Northwest Signal coverage area to earn a scholarship from the OHSAA’s Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Program.
The $200,000 awarded and 200 students are also both the highest in the college scholarship program’s 31-year history.
“These scholar-athletes represent the very best of high school athletics,” OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute said in a press release Wednesday. “Our district athletic boards, board of directors and OHSAA staff congratulate them on all their accomplishments and wish them well as they work toward their educational and career goals.”
The number of scholarship recipients from each district is based upon the number of schools within the district, with the recipients selected by special committees within each of the OHSAA’s six athletic districts.
Scholar-athlete recipients are picked based on a point system which rewards students for GPAs, class rank, community service activities, varsity letters earned and individual and team athletic honors, with athletes going to Division I or II two schools on athletic scholarships and appointees to military academies ineligible.
And Baker checked a lot of those boxes.
In basketball, Baker was a four-year letterwinner, two-time Buckeye Border Conference Player of the Year and four-time All-BBC first-team honoree and two-time All-Ohio honoree, earning second-team honors in Division VII this past season and Division IV special mention for the 2022-23 season.
In volleyball, Baker was also a Division VII All-Ohioan, earning first-team honors last fall, and secured her second BBC Player of the Year honor. The 6-foot-3 hitter also snagged her second consecutive All-BBC first-team selection and fourth overall in her four-year varsity career.
Baker also played softball this past spring for the first time in her high school career and participated in track and field from 2022-23.
And academically, Baker has been a BBC scholar-athlete every season she’s played. She earned the honor for volleyball twice (2023-24), girls basketball twice (2023-24, 2024-25) and softball once (2025). To be eligible for the honor, a BBC student must be a junior or senior and have at least a 3.25 GPA.
Baker was also a member of NHS, FFA and student council in her high school career.
Three other recent graduates from nearby schools were also awarded a scholarship. Tinora graduates Alec Schaublin and Nova Okuley, along with Wayne Trace grad Harper Myers, were also scholarship recipients.
The OHSAA also announced on Wednesday that it sent $1,250 to each member high school, combining for $1,020,000, to assist with items needed by each school’s athletic department.
The money comes from the OHSAA’s Athletic Enrichment Fund. The fund was established in 2023 to assist with costs of equipment, uniforms, game transportation, officials and improving student sportsmanship and adult fan behavior for each member high school’s athletic department.
