The Historical Society of Topsail Island scholarship recipients, from left, are Nathan Deitz, Allie Miller, Sinead Morrow and Allana Chase.
For nearly three decades, the Historical Society of Topsail Island has provided scholarships to graduating seniors from local high schools.
At this year’s annual scholarship luncheon held recently, the society awarded four scholarships amounting to a total of $18,000.
“Our scholarship recipients are chosen based on their academic performance, community involvement, and participation in extracurricular activities,” said Karen Gavigan, chairman of the HSTI Education Committee.
“HSTI is honored to recognize this year’s four exceptional students.”
Nathan Deitz, a Topsail High School senior and the son of David and Heidi Deitz, received a scholarship for his essay, “Sloop Point Plantation: A Timeless Legacy on the North Carolina Coast.”
Allana Chase, also from Topsail High School and the daughter of Allan Chase and Stephanie Clark, received a scholarship for her essay on Camp Lejeune.
Allie Miller, who attends Pender Early College and is the daughter of Robert and Melissa Miller, received a scholarship for her embroidered work on the Talos Missile display.
Sinead Morrow, also from Pender Early College and the daughter of John and Phan Morrow, received a scholarship for her painting of the Burgaw Train Station.
The students all presented their projects during the April 10 awards luncheon.
In addition to the scholarship students, their family members and HSTI members, also attending were Topsail High counselors Tabitha Ward and Jonathan Buchanan, Pender Early College counselor Abby Robbins, and Pender Early College Career Development Coordinator Shannon Grable.
