Onslow Memorial Hospital and Coastal Carolina Community College hosted the first official signing day for students accepted into the hospital’s Nursing Scholarship Program.
The event took place in the Bodenhamer Auditorium, located in the Fine Arts Building on the college campus, on July 11.
The signing marked a milestone in the partnership between the hospital and college and celebrated students who will receive full financial support as they pursue an associate degree in nursing.
Starting with the 2025-26 academic year, all students accepted into CCCC’s Associate Degree Nursing program will qualify for the Onslow Memorial Hospital Nursing Scholarship Program.
The scholarship covers 100% of tuition, books and mandatory fees, and includes a $500 monthly stipend to support students throughout their academic journey.
It’s a $20,000 value over the two-year program.
The program also ensures employment with OMH upon graduation and successfully passing the NCLEX exam.
“Since we announced this partnership, the response has been phenomenal,” said Tina Howard, CCCC academic counselor and coordinator for counseling services. “I’ve received numerous phone calls, and our students are thrilled. This level of financial support can truly transform their educational journey.”
The scholarship program was announced in April and aims to address the growing demand for skilled health care professionals in Onslow County.
A total of 14 students signed on signing day, with an additional three who were unable to attend joining the cohort.
“We are excited to finally reach signing day,” said Taylor Flowers, senior vice president of human resources at OMH. “It’s been a long time in the making.
“This program not only supports our future nurses but represents a powerful step forward for the future of health care in Onslow County, and this is just the beginning. We envision expanding our collaboration with Coastal into other programs in the years to come.”
While applications for the current class are now closed, prospective students are encouraged to explore future opportunities.
