The Caldwell Memorial Hospital Foundation announced two recipients of the 2025 Katharine Kent Cancer Care Scholarship. Emily Ireland and Phoebe Stanislaw were awarded $500 scholarships to support their continuing education.
The Katharine Kent Cancer Care Scholarship is given in honor of the life and work of Katharine Harper Kent, RN, OCN. At least one award is presented each year by the Kent family to a health professional caring for individuals touched by cancer or other illnesses in Caldwell County. The scholarship was created to bring awareness to these professionals that care for the citizens of the community. The award is given annually to support the educational efforts of health care professionals. Recipients may use the funds to attend conferences, complete college courses and any other continuing education programs. All employees of UNC Health Caldwell are eligible to receive the scholarship through the Caldwell Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Emily Ireland is a clinical support tech at UNC Health Caldwell and is highly recommended by several nurse managers in the organization. She is pursuing an associate degree in nursing at McDowel Technical Community College. She plans to graduate in Spring 2027.
Phoebe Stanislaw works as a certified nursing assistant at McCreary Cancer Center. She plans to use the award to support her completion of an accelerated Bachelor of Science in nursing. Phoebe is compassionate and provides comfort to her patients and their families.
