Illinois football has made some potentially significant spring upgrades to its 2024 defense during the last two weeks.
Florida A&M transfer Gentle Hunt adds needed Division-I experience and production to an Illini defensive line with few proven answers following the departures of starters (and now NFL players) Jer’Zhan Newton, Keith Randolph Jr. and Denzel Daxon.
Meanwhile, Illinois vastly improved its weakest position group by landing commitments from four-star Texas transfer cornerback Terrance Brooks and three-star Ohio transfer cornerback Torrie Cox Jr., who likely will be two of the top-four options for a group that struggled last season and lost two players who started games (Tahveon Nicholson and Zachary Tobe) to the transfer portal.
Yet, Illinois isn’t done with adding its finishing touches to the 2024 roster. But with Illini players starting to report for summer workouts next week, it’s crunch time in the transfer portal.
