D.H. Conley High School graduate Elyana Hvastkovs has been named the recipient of the Clary Medal Scholarship from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. She was one of two winners statewide.
This prestigious award honors student-athletes who exemplify outstanding academic achievement, athletic excellence, leadership and community service.
Ranked first in her class, Hvastkovs served as a leader on the soccer and golf teams while also co-founding a nonprofit to expand access to competitive soccer for underrepresented girls in eastern North Carolina.
In addition to athletics, she led public health research as part of a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill biostatistics pathway.
The daughter of Gretchen and Eli Hvastkovs, she plans to attend Georgetown University in the fall.
