Two women working in youth services at the local library recently received a financial boost for furthering their education.
Friends of the Culpeper County Library on June 4 presented the Ginny Magura Scholarship Award to Quinn Gierer and Corrinn Compton, according to a release from Friends President Nicolle Wootten.
The scholarship honors the memory and legacy of Ginny Magura (1928-2024), a longtime advocate for literacy. A volunteer who showed enduring dedication to Friends of the Library and its bookstore, Magura was past president of the group. She also volunteered at Pearl Sample Elementary School, where she inspired children to explore the world through reading, Wootten said.
Funds from the scholarship support individuals pursuing further studies in library sciences, continuing Ginny’s commitment to empowering others through literature.
“With generous support from the Magura family, the scholarship helps recipients further their education,” Wootten said.
Librarian Quinn Grierer, studying through ECPI, said it felt very validating to be chosen for the scholarship.

“I know that the committee worked hard to screen candidates and choose the ones that they think were worthy of the scholarship, and to be chosen meant to me that my work thus far and my education plans had merit and value,” she said.
Grierer said the scholarship is the help she needed to finish a masters in information and library science.
“Thanks to the Friends of the Culpeper County Library and to the Ginny Magura scholarship committee, I will be graduating as a full-fledged librarian in May 2026!”
Corrinn Compton, youth services associate, said being chosen for the scholarship is a profound affirmation of the work the library does.
“I feel proud to be part of a community that truly values its library, especially at a time when so many across the country are facing censorship and defunding,” she said.
Compton added she is fortunate to be part of a place where her supervisor, director and Friends of the Library supports professional growth and believes in the programs and ideas she brings for serving the public.
“This scholarship means I can continue my education without taking on more debt and save more for my children’s future. I’m honored by this opportunity, and I hope I can make Ginny proud,” Compton said.
The annual scholarship is currently accepting donations for next year’s award. Contributions may be sent to the Culpeper County Library and marked “scholarship.”
