Indian Valley Theatre (IVT) has announced the recipients of its 2025 Mimi Bryan Memorial Scholarship, awarding four local high school seniors for their achievements in theatre, academics, leadership, and service to their communities.
With the support of generous community donations, IVT was able to award four $500 scholarships this year—more than in any previous year. The scholarships were presented during recent Senior Awards Nights at Sandwich, Plano, and Yorkville High Schools.
According to the IVT Scholarship Committee, this year’s application pool was more competitive than ever, with a record number of talented and dedicated students applying. Committee members said the selection process was especially challenging, as each applicant showcased exceptional talent, strong academics, volunteerism, and a clear commitment to their goals—values that reflect the spirit of the late Mimi Bryan.
Two students were honored at Sandwich High School on May 14, where IVT President Jen Ketchum and longtime member Sharon Pagoria presented the awards.
Grace Anderson, a highly active theatre student who has appeared in over 20 productions, was recognized for her dedication to musical theatre and her eagerness to give back through volunteering. She plans to major in Musical Theatre and hopes to inspire others through the performing arts. Anderson shared that theatre has provided her with a strong sense of direction and personal purpose.
Keygan Hake was the second recipient from Sandwich. With involvement in more than 27 productions, Hake has contributed both on stage and behind the scenes—most notably by designing creative logos and posters for IVT events. He plans to study graphic arts at Waubonsee Community College and expressed a desire to carry forward Mimi Bryan’s passion for both theatre and education, which he deeply respects.
At Plano High School on May 15, IVT awarded a scholarship to Asher Munar, a lifelong theatre participant who began working with IVT at just six years old. In addition to theatre, Munar is active in several school music programs and is a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and International Thespian Society.
Beyond the arts, Munar has earned accolades through 4-H and has shown a deep commitment to community service, including donating animals to help veterans with PTSD. She plans to pursue a degree in Environmental Education, combining her passion for nature with public engagement.
Brendan Massey received his scholarship at Yorkville High School on May 7, with IVT’s Kathie Hart and Sharon Pagoria presenting the award. A theatre enthusiast since second grade, Massey has performed in more than 25 productions and volunteers his time as an assistant director for an elementary school theatre club. He’s also supported his high school theatre department behind the scenes.
Massey plans to major in Film and Media Production, aiming to continue his involvement in the arts in new and creative ways.
The Mimi Bryan Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of longtime IVT member Mimi Bryan, whose legacy of promoting theatre and education continues to impact the local community. Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who exhibit passion for the arts, strong academic performance, leadership, and service.
