Indiana Boosts Future Teacher Incentives: Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship Accepts Applications – Hoodline

Indiana’s future educators just got a fiscal boost. The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship is now open for application, as announced by State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton). High school seniors and college students in Indiana who aspire to take up the mantle of teaching can look forward to potentially receiving $10,000 per year for up to four years.
The scholarship, originally established in 2016, is designed to address the teacher shortage by incentivizing students to commit at least five years to teaching in the state. Rep. Yocum, in a statement obtained by Indiana House Republicans, emphasized the need, stating, “Indiana needs passionate, dedicated teachers, and this scholarship helps ensure we have them.” However, applicants who are expected to rank in the top 20% of their class or have equivalent ACT or SAT scores must also plan to graduate from an Indiana-accredited high school or non-accredited nonpublic high school.
To seize this opportunity, students need to apply online by Jan. 31, with the application available on the state’s scholarship tracking website. Scholarship notifications will go out by April 2026, providing ample time for recipients to plan their educational pursuits. Indiana’s Commission for Higher Education can be reached at [email protected] for those who need to sort out any queries.
Last year’s alteration of legislation, increasing the award from $7,500 to $10,000, and the lifting of the previous cap of 200 recipients, paved the way for nearly 300 scholarships to be awarded after more than a thousand aspirants applied; this was a new record for the program, according to Indiana House Republicans. Yocum said, “It’s an investment in our schools, communities and kids,” speaking to the value placed on quality education and the educators who will shape the state’s future.
