The Indiana County NAACP is accepting applications through 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, for the Shirley Sadler Reeder Memorial Scholarship. An award of $500 to $1,000 will be presented to a graduating senior from an Indiana County high school.
To be considered, applicants must pursue college or other postsecondary training, live and attend high school in Indiana County and have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. They must provide current school transcripts and two letters of reference — one from a teacher or school counselor and one from another professional. They must also write and submit a 500-word, typed essay that describes 1) how the NAACP has contributed to improving the quality of life in this country; 2) their leadership, extracurricular, community/volunteer service activities and other achievements; and 3) their career plans and/or goals.
