The fight for a sustainable future needs diverse leaders—and Intrepid Travel is taking action. Today, the global adventure travel company announced a new partnership with Homeward Bound,, a world-leading leadership initiative designed to equip women and non-binary professionals in STEMM with the skills and network to drive real change.
As part of this collaboration, Intrepid Travel is funding three fully paid scholarships, eliminating financial barriers and making this transformative program more accessible. The 12-month leadership course combines coaching, strategy development, and visibility training, culminating in a once-in-a-lifetime immersive expedition to Tanzania, where participants will apply their learning in real-world sustainability challenges.

Breaking Barriers in STEMM Leadership
Leigh Barnes, President of the Americas at Intrepid Travel, emphasizes the urgent need for representation:
“Women and non-binary leaders are at the forefront of tackling the climate crisis, but they remain underrepresented in STEMM. We can’t solve global challenges without diverse voices at the table. Through this partnership, we’re breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and empowering the next generation of changemakers.”
A Shared Mission for Inclusion
Sarah Derry, CEO of Homeward Bound, highlights the power of this collaboration:
“Intrepid Travel’s deep commitment to sustainability and inclusion perfectly aligns with our mission. This partnership brings more diverse voices into global conversations on climate and science while making the program financially accessible to those who need it most. The Tanzania expedition, designed by Intrepid, will push participants beyond the classroom, immersing them in real-world sustainability challenges.”
Why This Matters
Dr. Susanne Etti, Intrepid’s Global Environmental Impact Manager, underscores why investing in diverse leadership is critical:
“The climate crisis disproportionately affects women, yet they remain significantly underrepresented in leadership. The world needs more women and non-binary experts leading the way in STEMM—and this program is a game-changer for those ready to step up and drive lasting change.”
Applications Now Open
Applications are open until 21 March 2025, and are open to women and non-binary individuals in STEMM, with priority given to Indigenous, People of Color, and members of marginalized communities.
