The Jamestown Chapter of the United Sportsmen of North Dakota recently awarded three $1,000 scholarships. Applicants were required to have completed at least one year of study at a North Dakota college or university, be pursing a course of study in the biological sciences, and have completed a certified Hunter Safety Program. Applicants were not judged only on academic standing.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Maggie Benson, Fargo, Bridget Weatherly, Bismarck, and Janine Warne, Brookings, South Dakota.

Benson will be completing her undergraduate study at the Unversity of North Dakota in 2026, pursing a degree in biological science education. She has worked as a para educator and campus ministry volunteer annd with vector control for Cass County. She is an avid sportswoman with a variety of hunting and fishing enjoyment.
Weatherly is working toward a degree as a veterinary technician at North Dakota State University and will complete her degree in 2027. She has worked at the same retail store since 2023 and has worked many volunteer pet food and supply and canned food drives. She enjoys deer and pheasant hunting and fishing.
Warne attends the University of Mary and will complete her biology education in 20265. She served as a softball coach and umpire and seasonal forestry technician and serves as a substitute teacher for grades K-12 for the Bismarck School District. She does big and small game, waterfowl and varmint hunting and fishing.
This is the 12th year that the Jamestown Chapter of USND has appropriated funds for a scholarship program and has awarded $25,000 in scholarship aid. The membership has approved continuing the program in future years. The chapter prides itself in its dedication to supporting young adults but also appreciates the community support it has received for the past 38 years for its annual fundraising banquet.
