The Joe Barnhart Scholarship Program (JBSP) celebrated its annual Evening of Excellence at New Life Christian Church on Monday, May 13 awarding a total of $1,404,000 in scholarships to seniors AC Jones High School seniors. The community-based scholarships, funded by local and regional organizations and individuals, were presented to students by representatives from the respective organizations.
β€œIt is always a joy to see the smiles on the faces of the recipients and their parents when they are being awarded their scholarships,” JBSP Program Director Brenda DeLaRosa said.
During the event, 58 seniors were honored with scholarships, and 54 students received JBSP Honor Cords in the program’s signature colors, orange and white. Additionally, 29 Student Ambassadors were awarded Gold Cords in recognition of their administrative support to the JBSP team throughout the year.
Special recognition was given to seniors Devyn Rios and Micah Martinez for their exceptional volunteer service during their high school careers. Rios completed an impressive 950 volunteer hours, while Martinez contributed 735 hours. Their dedication to service was highlighted as an exemplary commitment to their community.
Students at AC Jones High School applied for an average of 20 scholarships each, with the number of applications per student ranging from 1 to 40. The application process begins in the fall of their senior year and involves collaboration with JBSP Academic & Scholarship Advisors Yesenia Gutierrez and Sarah Garcia. These advisors assist students in identifying potential scholarships, obtaining letters of recommendation, developing resumes, and composing essays.
The scholarship recipients included Lucas Aguilar, Kaylee Avalos, Khate Baile, Landon Baldillez, Edward Brako, Leo Cano, Alexei Carrasco, Paulina Esquivel, Nathan Foitek, Jayden Ford, Jaylin Garza, Annica Gonzales, Danielle Gonzales, Destinee Gonzales, Alana Guerrero, Austin Keller, Faith Leonard, Jasmine Lira, Emmanuel Liserio, Ariyana Lopez, Chloey Lopez, Sadie Lugo, Ransom McElwain, Emily Martinez, Micah Martinez, Nicholas Martinez, Ryann Martinez, Liliana Montez, Adriana Olea, Ava-Chanel Olivares, Jason Perez Jr., Larissa Puga, Melina Ramirez, Olivia Reyna, Devyn Rios, Erin Rivas, Ciarah Rodriguez, Jennifer Rodriguez,-Diaz, Lillian Rowlett, Clara Roznovsky, Christiana Salinas, JuanPablo Sanchez, Jason Servantes, Garrett Skau, Olivia Spires, Elijah Sustaita, Cierra Vasquez, Brooklyn Villanueva, Saphira Walsh, Aris Zamora and Adela Zermeno.
Also recognized were students who have enlisted in the United States Military. Those students included Joshua Arroyos, Taegan Cochran, Kristoffer Gomez, Joseph Lopez, Yuritzia Luna and Jaykub Pyneda.
The Evening of Excellence showcased the hard work and dedication of both students and the supporting community, emphasizing the importance of academic and extracurricular achievement.
