Three Jefferson County students have won scholarships for their work in promoting organ donation.
Spalding University student Markeyah Lewis, Bellarmine University student Queen Ememe, and Christian Academy of Louisville student Sarah Catherine Thompson, were three of the 20 Kentucky winners.
Each student will receive the 2024 Donate Life Kentucky Scholarship valued at $1,000.
The scholarship honors students across the commonwealth who work to educate their peers about the importance of being an organ donor.
Thompson, a recent graduate of the Christian Academy of Louisville, says organ donations saved her dad’s life and helped her create lifelong friends.
“It’s been really cool to see like the ties that it can have with people, like it really bonded my dad and his donor because they hadn’t been able to see each other for around 10 years, and now they’re super close, and they’re in contact, and it was really cool to see those friendships formed,” said Thompson.
