JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WAVE) – People across WAVE Country are already celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. ahead of his holiday Monday.
Jeffersonville High School hosted the 2025 Scholarship Breakfast. It’s a way for the city’s King Holiday Committee to raise money for students across Clark County and teach them about the history of the Civil Rights Movement.
Their goal Saturday was to get scholarships for six students.
“He’s the one that wanted us to understand the character of a person instead of the color of their skin and in the divisiveness of our society in this time, we want to remember that and refocus Dr. King’s dream so we can come together as a country,” Janis Leavell, the organizer of the scholarship breakfast said.
On Monday, the committee will lead a motorcade to Wesley United Methodist Church for a service at 1 p.m. The church will take an offering and all those funds will go to the King Scholarship Program.
