SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – Jewish Family Service of San Diego and the Center for Jewish Care at JFS have opened the next round of scholarship applications for Jewish students in the local community pursing higher education — including college, university, graduate or technical school.
For many students, applying for college or vocational school can seem out of reach. Concerned about this growing financial burden on San Diego families, Dr. Robert Rubenstein established the JFS-David Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship. Named in memory of his son, David, this life-changing scholarship opportunity encourages students to treasure their Jewish heritage, reflect on their Jewish values and better understand their connection to community.
Marissa Dates, assistant director for volunteer engagement at the Center for Jewish Care, said, “Going into our 17th year for the JFS-David Rubenstein Memorial Scholarship, we’ve seen the meaningful impact it makes in our community. It has helped send over 150 Jewish San Diegans to college or vocational school thanks to the generosity of longtime supporters Dr. Bob Rubenstein and Marie Raftery.”
Scholarships up to $10,000 will be awarded for the 2025-2026 school year based on financial need, academic performance and community involvement. Apply at www.jfssd.org/rubenstein.
