The Alumni Association of Jibowu High School (JHSAA), Lagos, has awarded scholarships worth over N300,000 to nine students chosen for their exceptional performance from Junior Secondary School one to three.
The association also donated textbooks to 39 high-achieving students to support their learning. During the school’s career day in Lagos, the association’s President, Mr Tosin Kadiri, an estate surveyor, explained that the scholarship initiative aims to assist financially disadvantaged students and dispel the misconception that education is futile.
Kadiri stated: “Many students wrongly believe education is a scam due to societal challenges. We felt it necessary to give back, as our school shaped us. It’s our duty to guide these students since they lack adequate mentorship.” He encouraged the students to stay committed to their education, uphold academic standards, and avoid vices.
Another alumnus, Mr Oluwasegun Williams, urged students to steer clear of behaviours that could limit their potential. He also advised parents to invest time in their children’s growth, emphasising self-belief and resilience.
“Parents should encourage their children to overcome self-doubt and not fear failure. When you fall, rise again,” he said. The school’s Principal, Ms Adebayo Kenny, urged students to uphold the school’s values of hard work, integrity, and faith. She encouraged them to maintain the institution’s positive image and thanked the alumni for their continuous support. She encouraged the alumni to sustain their contributions to the school and its students.
