The Jasper Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority announced the recipient of the Suzanne Jane Kress Memorial Scholarship at Jasper High School’s Senior Honors Day on May 2.
The scholarship is presented annually in memory of a founding member of the chapter whose life was cut short in an automobile accident while returning from a sorority convention.
Jillian Troutman was awarded the $2,000 scholarship, payable in annual installments over four years. Miss Troutman plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana to study nursing.
Troutman was a member of the Girl Scouts, 4-H, Student Council, German Club and Archery Club. She holds down several jobs while going to school. Jillian is the daughter of Abby Troutman and the late Bill Troutman.
Psi Iota Xi is a national philanthropic organization for women founded in 1897, with the Zeta Mu Chapter in Jasper founded in 1959. Its philanthropic mission focuses on speech and hearing, literacy, art, literature and music. The Jasper chapter holds a free Language and Literacy Camp each summer, and supports numerous additional
community causes.
