HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse surprised 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in the spring semester of 2025. All students selected for scholarships were nominated by their high schools. A twenty-first bonus surprise was hosted at American Furniture Warehouse in Katy.
Jordan High School graduate Mariana Rondon is the bonus winner of the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship. Jordan High School in Fulshear is part of the Katy Independent School District.
During her time in high school, Rondon served as president of the Jordan Legacies Dance Team. She was also a class officer, working as the class historian. In that role, Rondon documented Class of 2025 experiences through photos, videos and social media. She also created an international festival event that was open to the Fulshear community.
Rondon served as president of the Best Buddies program at her school, where she led more than 100 students to form friendships and provide social support for more than 30 students with special needs. She also volunteered helping individuals with special needs at Camp Blessing Texas.
In her scholarship nomination essay, Rondon told KPRC 2, “I worked to ensure that students with physical and learning disabilities were included and celebrated. I created and organized events like Warrior Olympics, an inclusive field day where our buddies could feel like champions. This community has taught me to stand up for those who can’t always advocate for themselves.”
This fall, Rondon will attend Texas A&M University where she will study neuroscience.
