DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Prom fashion isn’t just about sequins and satin anymore. Just ask Jordanah Wells.
The recent Dauphin County Technical School graduate is turning heads with a prom dress made entirely out of duct tape, as part of the national “Stuck at Prom” Scholarship Challenge hosted by Duck Brand.
“I just didn’t know that the way I’d be bringing it to life was through duct tape, which is awesome,” Wells said.
Her one-of-a-kind creation took 13 rolls of duct tape and 37 hours of work to complete, based on a design she originally sketched back in ninth grade.
Wells is competing against hundreds of other students nationwide in the annual contest, where teens design tuxes and gowns from duct tape for a shot at $15,000 in scholarship money. The winner will be chosen through online voting this summer.
But creating a dress entirely from tape came with its challenges.
“The hardest part was trying to manipulate it to bend,” she said. “I had to change the way I was dividing it up and the way I was cutting it as well.”
Though prom night has come and gone, the competition is just getting started, and Wells is ready to roll.
“I’m so glad I got to participate in this scholarship contest,” she said.
While most prom dresses end up tucked away in closets, hers might just help pay for college.
Voting for the 2025 Stuck at Prom contest opens this summer. Voters can cast one vote per day.
