The scholarship committee representing the Joseph and Mary McFarland Bishop Memorial Scholarship are pleased to announce the selection of Emily Kurtz of Westover, PA to receive one of their 2025 scholarship awards.
In announcing the selection, Barbara Bishop, daughter of Joseph and Mary McFarland Bishop said, “we were very impressed with Emily Kurtz as she is a mother who is returning to school after serving in the National Guard for several years and is now pursuing a career in nursing.   When we accept applications annually for the scholarship, we are always looking for those special applicants who need financial assistance and support to change their lives for the better.   Emily met and exceeded our criteria for the scholarship, and we are pleased to award her this financial assistance so she can pursue her new career path.”
Upon receiving the scholarship award, Emily Kurtz said, “My return to school as an adult student pursuing a career in nursing was inspired by my desire to build upon my experience working in the healthcare field to better myself and my family as well as my desire to make a difference in the lives of the individuals and families I will be caring for. I also believe that education, hard work, and integrity are some of the key values to success in life and I continuously strive to inspire my own children by example.”  Emily will be continuing her studies in the fall at the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center in the adult nursing program.
Clearfield County Charitable Foundation Executive Director Mark McCracken added, “while a majority of scholarship awards through the Charitable Foundation are typically awarded to graduating seniors, occasionally a scholarship committee will identify an adult non-traditional student that meets the necessary criteria.   We want to encourage anyone who can benefit from a scholarship to read over the scholarship application and see if they meet the requirements.
While some scholarships are specific to a particular high school or career path, many of the scholarships under the Charitable Foundation are open to a wide range of citizens in Clearfield County and other surrounding counties.”  Information about scholarships available through the Clearfield County Charitable Foundation along with information about establishing a scholarship or endowment fund to benefit the community can be found at www.clearfieldcharitablefoundation.org.
