TYLER, Texas — Jucys Family of Restaurants has launched a new scholarship program designed to help student employees pay for higher education.
The Jucys Family Scholarship, which took effect Sept. 1, is open to employees age 18 and younger who are enrolled in high school or working toward a GED. For every hour worked, participants accrue $1 toward a scholarship fund.
Funds are redeemable after one year of employment and upon graduation, and payments are made directly to the accredited college, university or trade school of the employee’s choice. Current employees are also eligible.
For example, a student working 20 hours per week could earn $1,040 in scholarship money after one year, or $2,080 after two years.
The program fulfills a longtime goal of Jucys co-founder Ronny Maxey, who died in 2023. His wife, Debbie Maxey, said the scholarship honors their shared commitment to supporting young workers.
“After 38 years in education, my heart still belongs with students,” owner Debbie Maxey said in a statement. “My husband, Ronny, built a restaurant business in 1980 that has long hired part-time high school students. Having grown up as a hard worker himself, he understood the challenge of balancing school, extracurriculars, and the responsibility of a job. Over the years, Ronny and I often spoke about creating a scholarship for students who do just that—those balancing school, work, and life. I’m proud to announce that the Jucys Family Scholarship will finally bring that dream to life. Every hour a student works in our restaurants is more than just a shift; it’s an investment in their future. I look forward to watching the dedication shown in a Jucys part-time job turn into opportunities that shape their tomorrow.
Jucys Family of Restaurants includes Jucys Hamburgers, Jucys Taco, T. Blanco’s Mexican Café and The Back Porch in Kilgore.
