TEXARKANA, Ark. – A Juneteenth pageant focusing on empowerment was held on Saturday at Arkansas Middle School.
This is the first Juneteenth pageant that Texarkana has had in a long while.
Mostly high school and middle school girls participated in the pageant, along with The Scholars, for which $1,000 worth of scholarships were awarded.
Pageant Coordinator and former Mrs. Arkansas, Ventura Watson, said, “All these ladies that are here today, know it’s about empowerment.”
“It is a Juneteenth pageant, but at the same time, what is Juneteenth about? It’s about empowering and setting goals,” said Watson. “Everyone wants to strive and reach a goal, and that’s what I want for these girls here today.”
