The Wilson County Sports Council’s annual Best All Around Student Athlete luncheon recognized both off and on the field achievements of 14 high school seniors on Friday at Cumberland University’s Baird Chapel.
Mt. Juliet’s Kai Perry and Green Hill’s Caroline Irvin were the recipients of $1,500 scholarships as the head of the class of 2025.
Perry, who participated in track and football for the Golden Bears, will continue his academic and athletic career at the University of the South – Sewanee.
Irvin, considered one of the top distance runners in Middle Tennessee and a triathlete, will enroll this fall at the University of South Florida as a member of the cross country team.
“It’s a real pleasure to see kids like this recognized,” said keynote speaker “Big Joe” Dubin, co-host of the Chase & Big Joe Show on 102.5 The Game. “High school athletes have a special place in my heart,” Dubin said. “Few people know the work they put in. I applaud the Sports Council for honoring some of the best and brightest young people here in Wilson County.”
Athletic directors from each of Wilson County’s high schools are asked to nominate one boy and one girl based on outstanding academic and athletic achievement.
Funding for the scholarship program, held every spring since 2000, is generated by the Sports Council’s annual Open Bass fishing tournament on Old Hickory Lake — sponsored by Two Rivers Ford.
First Freedom Bank sponsored the meal.

Claire Miller (softball and cheer) and Sam Duckwiler (basketball and baseball) from Friendship Christian School;
