(Iowa City, IA) — Kuemper Catholic Graduate DJ Vonnahme probably could have gone to a small college to play football but he bet on himself and walked on at the University of Iowa. After appearing in just four games last season with no statistics, it was enough for the Iowa coaching staff to put him on scholarship this season. Head Coach Kirk Ferentz says he has deserved it
With the Knights, Vonnahme played a number of different positions and was a first team all-stater as a senior but Iowa which is sometimes known as Tight End University moved Vonnahme to that position. He was able to redshirt last season so he is a freshman going into this year and Ferentz says he has some similar traits to former Hawkeye TE TJ Hockensen
Senior Addison Ostrenga is projected as the Hawkeyes starting tight end this year. Iowa opens their 2025 season next Saturday, August 30 hosting Albany
