LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Kentucky university is getting a boost to help educate future health care workers.
Kentucky State University has received a $400,000 donation to create scholarships for nursing students.
The money was donated by Richard and Anna Marie Rosen to help address a nursing shortage in Franklin County.
“The pandemic opened our eyes to how critically important nurses are to our community’s well-being,” Richard Rosen said.
Five renewable, merit-based scholarships will be given to nursing students each year who plan on working at Frankfort Regional Medical Center, or any other medical facility in Franklin County.
“This initiative addresses two critical needs: helping students achieve their educational dreams while ensuring our local healthcare system has skilled healthcare professionals for years to come,” Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo, KSU president, said in a news release.
Any student pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing will be eligible.
KSU’s nursing program is its largest and fastest-growing program.
