KINSTON, N.C. — Young adults in Kinston took advantage of the pleasant spring weather today by participating in a spirited game of kickball. The event was organized by the Lenoir County Young Professionals of NC, with all proceeds going towards scholarships for local students, said Janna Turner, the organization's president.
Participants were divided into four teams, with one of the coaches being Chris Suggs, a city council leader and founder of Kinston Teens. Suggs, who is also a member of the organizing group, emphasized the positive impact of such events.
"This right here is just one of many examples of young leaders in Kinston bringing folks together, having a good time, and having a positive impact on the community," said Suggs.
Turner echoed this sentiment, stating, "Show people that you can come to Kinston or Lenoir County and just have fun and that there's good stuff out here."
The event is part of a broader effort to highlight the positive aspects of the community. Turner and Suggs noted that the fun is far from over, with the city set to kick off the first weekend of May with their annual BBQ Festival. Additionally, Kinston Teens will resume their "Sunday Dinner" events in May, providing free meals to residents every Sunday.
