GRAYLING, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU)— Kirtland Community College is gearing up for a garage sale scholarship fundraiser aimed at supporting its students.
Volunteers were busy setting up at Kirtland’s Grayling campus, preparing 110 tables filled with donated items such as clothing, books, chairs, and other household goods.
Wayne Koppa, the garage sale manager, highlighted the success of the previous sale held in 2023, which raised approximately $7,000.
"We actually raised enough money to have a permanent scholarship named after Command Sgt. Major retired Tike Golnick and his wife Sally that pays $500 a year forever," said Koppa. He added, "And two years later when the market was down, Kirtland had several scholarships that they might not be able to award that year because they were new scholarships and they hadn’t earned any money yet."
Kirtland is accepting donations for the garage sale until 7 p.m. tonight.
The sale will open to the public on Saturday at the Thomas Quinn Event Center, running from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
