The small but busy Kiwanis Club of Ridgecrest had an eventful meeting, giving out scholarships, meeting with a sister club, and making a donation to the Salvation Army. And that excludes the two presentations provided by community organizations at their May 22 meeting.
Three young women from the Key Club were given $1,000 scholarships at the meeting. They each received an envelope with instructions on how to get their award money as well as contact information for Dr. Ying-Ming Lee. In order to receive their scholarship funds they need to enroll in the college of their choice, and once they provide a student number to the Kiwanis, the club will send a tuition check to the school. It’s a valuable safety measure because it prevents an overeager youth from making an irresponsible decision; it also protects them from any sudden misfortune or setback jeopardizing their education.
