The Board of Directors of the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation has announced the formation of the Joe and Jane Buffo Family Endowed Scholarship.
According to a release from the foundation, Joe and Jane Buffo were firm believers in a good education. They raised four children on 20 acres located just outside of Knoxville. Their children are all Knoxville High School graduates, Janet (‘74), Janine (‘76), Joanne (‘78), and Jeff (‘79). After receiving an education through the Knoxville school district, all went on to complete higher education in the healthcare field. Throughout their lives, Joe and Jane showed not only in words but in their actions, the importance of family, conservation, and sustainability. They generously shared their time and talents with the Knoxville community.
One example was the creation of the Knoxville High School Arboretum in 2001 where their children and grandchildren, along with the Knoxville High School Science Club, planted several native Iowa trees just southwest of the high school. In honor and memory of Joe and Jane, their children wish to create a scholarship in partnership with the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation to go towards the success of future Knoxville High School graduates in the health sciences field.
