L.I. Smith and Associates in Paris recently saw two of its employees win awards at the annual Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyors conference.
The company also announced who will be the recipients of the Larry Isham Smith Civil Engineering scholarship and the Lucile D. Smith Land Surveying scholarship.
Vice President of Survey Tommy Young was given the John J. Harris Surveyor of the Year Award. To qualify for this award, a surveyor must meet a list of criteria and be a member of TAPS.
Tyler LaPointe, a survey technician and land surveyor in training, received the Student of the Year award. That award is presented to a student who has exceptional leadership roles and involvement in their land surveying programs at their university, local chapter and state organization.
The company announced it will award the Larry Isham Smith Civil Engineering Scholarship to Estefania Silva. She is a senior majoring in civil engineering and is a Weakley County native, having grown up in Martin.
Will Gallimore was awarded the Lucile D. Smith Land Surveying scholarship. Gallimore is a junior farm and ranch management major from McKenzie.
The company’s scholarship program aims to recognize and support outstanding local students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and a commitment to making a positive impact in the civil engineering and land surveying fields.
“These students are the future of the industry. There is no doubt the recipients will each make a tremendous impact on the field as they enter the workforce,” said L.I. Smith Vice President of Marketing and Communication Ashley Horn.
