Get ready to slather some butter and pour the syrup. The LaGrange Kiwanis Club’s annual pancake breakfast is set to return in March.
The syrupy fundraiser returns for its 28th year at First Baptist Church on the Square on Saturday, March 8, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Tickets for the event are $8 and include hot coffee, orange juice, sausage and all-you-you-can-eat pancakes. Tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanis Club member or at the door.
The pancake breakfast is held yearly as a fundraiser to support local students.
“Our main goal — priority one — is children. Everything we do goes back to the community somewhere to students,” said Craig Deloach, Pancake Chairman.
In years past, the Kiwanis have provided scholarships to local high school seniors through the Gordon Scholarship Program. The students who receive the scholarships are typically Key Club members at their schools, which the Kiwanis Club actively supports. None of the local high schools currently have Key Clubs, so their only scholarship is their home school one, Deloach said.
‘We’re trying to get back into the school systems,” Deloach said. “Unfortunately, I think too many schools are overwhelmed and things are just changing.”
Along with the scholarships, the Kiwanis support Communities In Schools, PBIS and the Terrific Kids program, which rewards elementary school students for meeting goals.
Last year, the Kiwanis served up 610 plates of pancakes, going through 28 gallons of pancake batter, which was provided by IHOP. With the IHOP closing in LaGrange, Deloach said they are looking for another batter sponsor and are reaching out to Cracker Barrel.
Kroger and Kimble’s Foods, now Jane Foods, also sponsor the event.
“The goal is to try to get as much donated as we can so we have more money to put back into the community,” Deloach said.
Last year’s pancake breakfast netted just over $8,000, he said.
