The Lahaina Restoration Foundation recently awarded $10,000 in scholarships to Lahainaluna High School seniors and alumni at the Senior Awards Assembly on May 7.
The scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year were awarded based on eligibility criteria such as acceptance into accredited two- or four-year colleges and universities, as well as essay submissions.
Four seniors — Taika Swearingen, Mobihema Adovas, Janice Yabo and Reynason Topinio — and two alumni each received a $1,000 scholarship. The alumni recipients are Mekayla Bandy (University of Hawaii at Manoa) and Emily Partridge (University of Hawaii at Kauai).
In addition two seniors — Vi Nguyen and Alexis Peligrino-Hayase — received $2,000 each.
The Lahaina Restoration Foundation aims to support local students in their higher education pursuits, continuing the foundation’s commitment to the community’s educational growth​.
Due to the 2023 wildfires, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s office is now next to the A&B Sugar Museum in Pu’unene.
The nonprofit organization is working with FEMA and others to restore and rebuild Lahaina’s historic sites. For more, go to www.lahainarestoration.org/.
