The Lahaina Restoration Foundation recently awarded $10,000 in scholarships to Lahainaluna High School seniors and alumni at the Senior Awards Assembly on May 7.
The scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year were awarded based on eligibility criteria such as acceptance into accredited two- or four-year colleges and universities, as well as essay submissions.
Four seniors — Taika Swearingen, Mobihema Adovas, Janice Yabo and Reynason Topinio — and two alumni each received a $1,000 scholarship. The alumni recipients are Mekayla Bandy (University of Hawaii at Manoa) and Emily Partridge (University of Hawaii at Kauai).
In addition two seniors — Vi Nguyen and Alexis Peligrino-Hayase — received $2,000 each.
The Lahaina Restoration Foundation aims to support local students in their higher education pursuits, continuing the foundation’s commitment to the community’s educational growth.
Due to the 2023 wildfires, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s office is now next to the A&B Sugar Museum in Pu’unene.
The nonprofit organization is working with FEMA and others to restore and rebuild Lahaina’s historic sites. For more, go to www.lahainarestoration.org/.
