LAKE GEORGE – Since its inception in 1952, the Lake George Scholarship Association (LGSA) has stood as evidence of the Lake George community’s unwavering commitment to education. Founded by a dedicated group of local community members, LGSA’s mission has been to raise funds to provide scholarships to graduates of Lake George High School pursuing higher education. Over the decades, this nonprofit organization has awarded scholarships totaling nearly $1.74 million to over 1,260 students.
Each year, scholarship recipients are selected based on merit, financial need, and community service. This selection process ensures that the scholarships support students who not only excel academically but also contribute positively to their community.
“Given the continuously rising costs of higher education, any financial assistance we can offer makes a difference to these families,” said Jim Mason, president of the LGSA. “While our average gift of around $3,000 per student may seem modest compared to the $40-60,000 annual cost, we believe every bit of support provides a valuable benefit.”
One of LGSA’s most anticipated annual events is the Scholarship Cruise. On May 2, 2025, the 34th Annual Scholarship Cruise set sail aboard the ADIRONDAC, offering attendees an evening of scenic beauty, live entertainment by the Lake George High School jazz band, and a silent auction. This year, the annual cruise honored Amy Baker, Lake George Jr.-Sr. High School’s band teacher, for her many years of dedication to the district.
Beyond the cruise, LGSA engages the local community and alumni through various fundraising efforts, including annual phone-a-thon. This strong community involvement demonstrates the pride and commitment of Lake George residents in ensuring educational opportunities for the students of their district.
As a recognized chapter of Dollars for Scholars, the nation’s largest nonprofit, private-sector scholarship and educational support organization, the LGSA continues to uphold its mission of supporting higher education aspirations.
