Application deadline for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for 2023-24 has been extended till December 31, 2023. Interested and eligible candidates can visit the official website of the National Scholarship Portal to register for the scholarship before the last date.
Meritorious students belonging to the economically weaker sections can avail this scholarship to avoid their drop out from class 8. The scholarship has been introduced with an aim to encourage the education of students at the secondary stage. The amount of scholarship awarded to students is Rs 12,000 per annum.
Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than Rs 3,50,000 per annum are eligible to avail the scholarships. The candidates must have minimum of 55 per cent marks or equivalent grade in class 7 examination for appearing in the selection test for award of scholarship.
As part of the central sector initiative, one lakh fresh scholarships are awarded to selected students from class 9 every year and their continuation / renewal in classes 10 to 12 for students studying in State Government, Government-aided and local body schools.
The scholarship amount is disbursed directly into the bank accounts of selected students by electronic transfer through Public Financial Management System (PFMS) following DBT mode.
